How to Upload SVG Files to Cricut Design Space from your Computer Easily

Learn how you can easily upload any of my free SVG files - and any other designer's too! - to Cricut Design Space, by using your Mac or Windows computer!

Have you downloaded or purchased SVG files but are feeling lost and frustrated every time you try to upload them to Cricut Design Space? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In this article I will teach you how to easily and quickly upload your SVG cut files from your iPad or iPhone so that you can begin using them right away!

Why SVG Files Often Come Zipped

The first step is to make sure your file is unzipped. Often SVG cut files will come zipped with other file formats such as JPG, PNG, PDF, etc. SVG files are also sold in bundles of SVG designs and will likely be zipped in that case, as well. Zipping files is just a way to compress the file to save space. It’s not done to make it more difficult but often places like Etsy have file size limits for digital sales. Zipping larger files is the only way for the platforms to host the so many files at once (which is how you are able to get instant downloads vs waiting for the seller to email you the files). I often zip my files even when sharing them for free in my Cricut FaceBook group for the same reasons, to reduce file size and save space in my cloud storage.

Whether you are using a Windows or Mac operating system the process to unzip will be similar. You can check if your file needs to be unzipped by opening the folder you saved it to and viewing its file extension. This will look something like .zip, .svg, or .html. If the file extension is .zip, your file will need to be unzipped first.

Unzipping SVG Files on a Mac

1.) Find the folder you would like to unzip in Finder and then double click on the zipped file.

2.) The file will automatically be decompressed by Archive Utility into the same folder the compressed file is in.

3.) Access the extracted files by clicking the appropriate icons.

Unzipping SVG Files on Windows

1.) Open File Explorer and find the zipped folder

2.) To unzip the entire folder, right-click to select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

3.)To unzip a single file or folder, double-click the zipped folder to open it.Then, drag or copy the item from the zipped folder to a new location.
